What We Believe
At Pleasant Baptist, our beliefs are rooted in Scripture and expressed in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. Here is a summary of our core convictions:
-
God – There is one living and true God, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is holy, sovereign, loving, and just, the Creator and Ruler of all things.
-
Jesus Christ – Jesus is the eternal Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, and will return to judge the world and establish His kingdom.
-
The Holy Spirit – The Spirit convicts of sin, calls people to Christ, gives new life, equips believers with spiritual gifts, and seals them until the day of redemption.
-
The Bible – The Scriptures are God’s inspired Word, true and trustworthy, our supreme authority for belief and practice.
-
Humanity – All people are created in God’s image, male and female, equal in worth, yet all have sinned and stand in need of salvation.
-
Salvation – Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. It includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.
-
The Church – A New Testament church is a local congregation of baptized believers, governed by Christ’s commands, joined together in faith and fellowship, and commissioned to make disciples of all nations.
-
The Family – God established marriage as the union of one man and one woman for life, and the family as the foundational institution of human society.
-
Last Things – God is moving history toward His appointed end. One day, Christ will return personally and visibly to raise the dead, judge the world, and establish His eternal kingdom.
